Sanlam reaffirmed its dedication to youth empowerment and skills development with the launch of its 2025 Internship Programme, welcoming 17 ambitious young professionals from tertiary institutions across Namibia. This initiative is more than just an internship; it is a stepping stone towards professional success, equipping students with practical experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to grow within a dynamic corporate environment.
“Since the programme’s inception, Sanlam has provided 114 interns with hands-on experience, helping them graduate and transition into the workforce. “We are proud that 32 of these interns have secured permanent roles within the company, demonstrating our long-term commitment to nurturing future leaders,” said Laurencia Prinzonsky, Marketing and Communications Manager.
Sanlam’s Internship Programme, launched in 2020, is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice, allowing interns to develop critical skills while working alongside seasoned professionals. The programme also serves as a recruitment pipeline, identifying and retaining talented individuals who align with Sanlam’s values and vision. More importantly, for many students, this internship isn’t just an opportunity; it is the final requirement standing between them and their graduation.
A key highlight of the Internship Handover Event was a fireside chat with Steven Bernardus Harageib, a Development Practitioner, who shared powerful insights on career growth, resilience, and the importance of adaptability in an ever-changing job market. He urged the interns to embrace discomfort as a catalyst for growth. “There’s no progress without challenges. Step outside your comfort zone, take risks, and own your journey,” he said. He also stressed the importance of unlearning outdated skills, encouraging the interns to develop a future-proof mindset in a rapidly evolving world.
The impact of Sanlam’s Internship Programme is best reflected in the stories of former interns who have successfully transitioned into full-time roles. Ray-Anne Snyders, now a New Business Analyst, started as an intern filled with uncertainty but soon discovered her passion for problem-solving. “I remember feeling overwhelmed on my first day, unsure of how I would fit in. But with the right guidance and support, I grew into my role, and today, I am proud to be a part of Sanlam’s journey.”
Similarly, Thandi Hoffmann, now a Client Service Advisor, spoke about the transformational experience of her internship. “Every challenge, every project, no matter how small, became a stepping stone to something greater. This internship didn’t just teach me skills; it shaped my confidence and work ethic.”
Sanlam’s commitment to investing in young talent goes beyond offering temporary placements, it is about creating meaningful career pathways. The company believes that by providing mentorship, exposure, and real-world experience, interns leave not just with a ‘ticket’ to graduation but also a strong foundation for their careers.
As Sanlam’s latest group of interns embarks on their journey, they do so with the assurance that they are part of an organisation that values growth, learning, and leadership. This programme is not just about gaining work experience, it’s about shaping the next generation of professionals who will contribute to Namibia’s economic and corporate landscape.
