NUST reaffirms commitment to integrity amid anonymous allegations

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has issued a firm response to recent anonymous letters circulating on social media and addressed to the Anti-Corruption Commission, reaffirming the institution’s strict governance protocols and commitment to transparency.

In a media release dated Thursday, 11 September 2025, the university clarified that it does not entertain anonymous submissions in official proceedings, as per a Council resolution passed in 2024. The institution emphasised that all complaints must be submitted through identifiable channels to ensure they are verifiable and actionable.

Despite this policy, the university acknowledged the reappearance of such letters in the public domain and deemed it necessary to restate its position on governance, integrity, and accountability.

NUST underscored that it operates under rigorous governance frameworks aligned with statutory requirements and government regulations. The university maintains that its decision-making processes are guided by institutional policies and the highest ethical standards.

The institution also highlighted its established grievance mechanisms, which offer employees a formal, confidential, and structured pathway to raise concerns. The university’s Investigation Office, operating under the Governance, Risk, and Compliance Office, is available to conduct independent reviews of credible allegations while ensuring protection from retaliation and procedural fairness.

In response to references within the anonymous letters, the university confirmed the existence of the Chancellor’s Virtual Office, led by Prof Peter Katjavivi. The office was established by the Council to strengthen leadership continuity and support the university’s academic standing. Prof Katjavivi, who has served nearly a decade as Chancellor, is recognised for his dedication and contributions to the institution.

Regarding procurement practices, NUST reiterated its strict adherence to the Public Procurement Act, 2015. All purchases, including vehicles, are conducted through competitive tender processes subject to due diligence and legal approval. The university assured that transparency and accountability are maintained at every stage.

NUST urged the public to exercise caution and judgement when encountering unverified information and encouraged stakeholders with legitimate concerns to make use of its formal grievance procedures.
