NASRIA celebrates excellence at inaugural broker awards night

The Namibia Special Risks Insurance Association Limited (NASRIA) hosted its first-ever Broker Awards Ceremony on 03 July 2025 at Droombos, under the enchanting theme “The Night under the Stars.” The event brought together industry leaders, distinguished brokers, and key stakeholders to honour the pivotal role of insurance intermediaries in fostering economic resilience and financial inclusion in Namibia.

Ericah Shafuda, the Minister of Finance, delivered a keynote address, commending NASRIA for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Namibia’s financial stability. She emphasized the critical role of special risk insurance in mitigating systemic risks and bolstering investor confidence. “Insurance brokers are the bridge between clients and the market, simplifying complex risks and ensuring protection during times of distress,” she noted. The Minister also highlighted the Ministry’s support for initiatives that promote black economic empowerment, SME growth, and financial literacy across the nation.

Managing Director and Principal Officer of Namibia Special Risks Insurance Association Limited (NASRIA), John Uusiku echoed these sentiments, reflecting on NASRIA’s milestones, including a record-breaking net profit of over N$100 million in 2024. He praised brokers for their instrumental role in driving the success of NASRIA’s flagship product, PVT, which covers risks like riots, terrorism, and political violence. Uusiku also announced the introduction of a dedicated Broker Consultant and Client Support Officer to further strengthen NASRIA’s partnerships with brokers and financial institutions.

NASRIA Executive for Marketing and Sales, Ndapona Schleberger underscored the significance of Gross Written Premium (GWP) as a measure of trust and partnership. Awards were presented to brokers who excelled in market penetration, client education, and premium generation. The event also recognized the behind-the-scenes efforts of the Awards Committee, whose dedication made the ceremony possible.

As the night unfolded, attendees were reminded that the awards were not just a celebration of past achievements but a call to action for continued collaboration. The ceremony marked the beginning of an annual tradition to honour excellence, inspire innovation, and reinforce NASRIA’s mission of providing innovative insurance solutions for Namibia’s unique risks.

The evening concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work together in building a resilient and inclusive financial future for Namibia.
