Namibia’s premier digital enabler, MTC, has announced the deployment and availability of 5G services in the country. MTC made the announcement today (24 August 2025) during the annual Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF).
With the soft launch, MTC, once again becomes the 1st operator in the country to bring the keenly awaited technology onto the Namibian shores. Currently, 5G technology is made available in Ongwediva, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Windhoek and will be followed by an aggressive deployment in the next few months to ensure that all Namibians have access to this amazing technology.
Speaking at the announcement, MTC’s Chief Technical and Information Officer, Monica Nehemia, with pride, enthused that the benefits of 5G will serve as a key catalyst in advancing other innovations, industries, and Namibia’s digital economy.
According to Nehemia, “We are proud to make 5G available to the market. MTC remains committed to leading Namibia’s digital transformation through the provision of a reliable and latest network technology that facilitates access to information, critical services, and communication, thereby bridging the digital divide. The connectivity power, and seamlessness that comes with 5G is exactly what we need in propelling the digitisation of enterprise solutions across Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and payments, thereby enhancing business operations, efficiency, and fostering innovation and scalability.”
As MTC aspires to become Namibia’s leading purpose- driven technology company by 2030, it is compelling to envisage the opportunities that next- generation technologies like 5G will unlock for the continent. From immersive experiences, gaming, smart warehousing, telemedicine, to smart irrigation, the possibilities are limitless as we work towards achieving our national goal of becoming a smart digital economic enabler.
While the public launch is imminent, today’s announcement comes at the back of the commitment made in February 2024, when MTC successfully trialed the 5G technology.
This is a significant and historic milestone for our country’s technological infrastructure and digital journey that saw us journey from 2G all the way to 5G.
