Namibian film “My F*K Marelize!” triumphs with three awards at Silverskermfees 2025

The Namibian–South African co-production My F*K Marelize! was a major winner at the 2025 Silverskermfees held in Cape Town, securing three prestigious awards. The film earned Best Actress for Je-Ani Swiegelaar, Best Supporting Actress for Zandélle Meyer, and the Audience Choice Award.

A collaborative effort between Namibia’s Joe Vision, led by award-winning producers Sophie and Joel Haikali, and South Africa’s Nagylug and Nostalgia Productions, the film was co-financed by MultiChoice Namibia and KYKNET. Shot entirely in Windhoek, it draws inspiration from a real-life viral Namibian moment, offering a heartfelt and quirky coming-of-age family story that traces the emotional journey behind a popular meme.

According to producer Joel Haikali, “My F*K Marelize! is a cinematic love letter to Windhoek and to family, and winning three awards in South Africa is not just a celebration for our team, but for Namibia’s creative community as a whole. It shows that our stories, rooted in our culture and everyday realities, resonate beyond our borders.”

Ahead of its Namibian cinema release on Friday, 29 August at Ster-Kinekor, key members of the creative team will be in Windhoek for industry engagements. On 27 August, an Industry Discussion on Co-Productions will take place at 12:00 in the MultiChoice Namibia Auditorium. The event is hosted by the Filmmakers Association of Namibia, MultiChoice Namibia, and the Namibian Film Commission. Panelists will include writer/producer Brett Michael Innes, producers Sophie and Joel Haikali, and line producer Chanel Mueller.

Later that day, at 18:00, an invite-only Namibian premiere will be held at Ster-Kinekor Grove Mall in Windhoek, hosted by MultiChoice Namibia. The event will be attended by local crew, cast members, and the real Horn family that inspired the film.
