Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), a leading force in Africa’s telecommunications landscape, has been named the recipient of the Grand Prix Most Admired African Brand – Telecommunications at the 2025 Brand Africa Awards.
This prestigious accolade recognizes MTC’s unwavering commitment to innovation, customer empowerment, and its transformative impact across the continent.
The Brand Africa Awards, now in their 15th year, celebrate excellence in brand leadership and purpose-driven business across Africa. Brand Africa’s MTC’s recognition places it among the continent’s most influential and trusted brands.
At a glittering ceremony held in the capital Windhoek, on Monday morning, MTC walked away with the titles of (1) Grand Prix Most Admired Namibian Brand, (2) Most Admired African Brand (Aided Recall), (3) Most Admired Namibian Brand Doing Good for Society and the Environment, (4) Most Admired Namibian Brand Contributing to a Better Africa award and (5) Most Admired Telecommunications Brand in Namibia.

Some of the notable achievements of MTC since 2010 include:
1) MTC in the last 15 years has solidified and expanded its footprint across Namibia, such as being the was the second operator to launch 4G in Africa, in 2011, despite the vastness of the country.
2) In 2016 Huawei and MTC, trialed the commercial use of LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in Namibia and the first 4.5G trial in Africa.
3) Announced, large scale network improvement and infrastructure program in 2017 called 081Every1 campaign, which realized over 581 network towers erected across Namibia to ensure 100 % population settlement coverage to convert 2G to 3G services.
4) In 2019, during Covid, it accelerated and enable Government remote work policy to mitigate effects of Covid 19.
5) MTC successfully listed on the Namibian Stock Exchange (NSX) on November 19, 2021. This listing marked the first time a Namibian public enterprise had transitioned from being 100% state-owned to a publicly traded entity. The listing followed an Initial Public Offering (IPO) where MTC raised N$2.541 billion capital was raised. The IPO was the largest in Namibian history, raising more than three times the amount of the previous largest IPO.
6) Successfully held a high-level industry public demonstration and trial of 5G readiness, assessment in 2024.
7) In 2023 launched MTC 4Life” a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) designed to combat youth unemployment by providing skills training and business development support to young, self-employed, or unemployed individuals, enabling them to start or expand small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The program focuses on providing practical and entrepreneurial skills training to young Namibians, primarily between the ages of 18 to 35 and support with seed capital and equipment upon completion of training.
8) Launched the MTC National Internship Program now renamed the National Internship Program in 2019 (NNIP). The NNIP was launched to address the yearly backlog of students needing Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities to graduate. The program partners with the public and private sectors and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to secure student internship placements. The program aims to create internship opportunities for 1 600 interns annually Since 2019, 1 057 students have been placed in internships through the program. In 2024, 293 interns were supported. The students are placed in internships and receive a N$3 000 monthly stipend for three months or N$1 500 for six-month internships.
9) October of 2024, MTC launches MTC Maris Maris enables users to store, send, and receive money using their Mobile devices. No bank account is required, and the service works on every type of Mobile device including 2G/3G feature phones.
