Namibia Breweries and Navachab Gold Mine partner to promote responsible drinking

In a significant move to champion workplace wellness, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) and QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine have launched a strategic partnership aimed at promoting responsible alcohol consumption among employees. The initiative, which commenced on Friday, 22 August 2025, is designed to equip mine workers with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions regarding alcohol use.

The programme employs a “train-the-trainer” model, through which NBL provided specialised alcohol awareness training to the mine’s Wellness Practitioner and designated staff. This method ensures that employees receive continuous support, helping to foster a lasting culture of care, empowerment, and resilience at the mine.

Franklin Angermund, NBL’s Public Affairs & Sustainability Manager, stated that the collaboration goes beyond mere awareness. “This partnership is about building safer, healthier workplaces where employees are confident in making responsible choices,” he said. “By combining NBL’s expertise with QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine’s commitment to employee wellbeing, we aim to make a meaningful positive impact in Namibia.”

The initiative forms a key part of NBL’s ‘Brewing a Better Namibia’ strategy, which focuses on creating sustainable impact through the care of people and the environment. It builds upon nearly two decades of the company’s leadership in national campaigns such as ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’.

Echoing this sentiment, Tuafi Shafombabi, QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine’s PR and Communications Officer, said the programme sets a new standard for employee wellbeing in the mining sector. “Collaborating with NBL enables us to create safer, more productive work environments and reinforce a culture where informed decision-making is prioritised,” Shafombabi noted.

Through this partnership, both companies reaffirm their commitment to promoting responsible behaviour, aiming to deliver long-term benefits for their employees, families, and the wider Namibian community.
