The City of Windhoek has stated that its recently launched Windhoek City Application (App) will soon unveil a feature in which residents can buy prepaid water and electricity on credit.
Speaking at the launch of the app this week, Filemon Neputa, Strategic Executive: Information & Communication Technology, said this feature, which will come in the next phase, is aimed at supporting customers facing financial constraints.
“We understand that there are times when individuals may find themselves low on cash but still in need of electricity or water units. Through this innovative solution, we are extending a helping hand to those who require temporary assistance, ensuring that no resident is left without these vital services,” he said.
Windhoek City’s application has been designed to meet the wide-ranging needs of its residents while fitting into the digital era. Through this application, residents will now have the ease of conducting and accessing municipal services at their fingertips, such as submitting water and electricity readings, viewing municipal account statements, reporting potholes, leaking or burst pipes, viewing unpaid and paid traffic fines, and much more, thereby enabling smooth transactions at any time, any place.
“Moreover, in the near future, the application will make it easier to purchase water and electric tokens. This characteristic is especially important in guaranteeing that residents have uninterrupted access to these fundamental services. “By allowing customers to buy vouchers via the application, we are simplifying the procedure of personal trips to municipal buildings and removing obstacles that could impede entry in case of emergencies or outside regular working hours,” explained Neputa.
He went on to invite all residents to actively participate in shaping the future of the city by utilising the City of Windhoek App, emphasising that through this user-friendly application, residents can conveniently submit utility readings, access account statements, report infrastructure issues such as potholes and leaking or burst pipes, and view traffic fines, to name but a few.
“At this juncture, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the dedicated team who worked tirelessly to develop this app in-house. The collaborative effort between our ICT and finance departments has resulted in a cutting-edge solution that aligns with our commitment to innovation and excellence. I believe that by focusing on innovation and productivity, we can maintain a level of service provision to satisfy the requirements of both the council and residents.
“Lastly, we urge each and every one of you to install the City of Windhoek App on your phone from the Google Play- Store for Android devices, the App Store for IoS devices, and the App Gallery for Huawei devices and start on this venture “to create our smart city and improve the standard of living for all citizens by delivering competent and successful city services,” he said.
