Today marks a transformative moment as Namibia officially begins trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat (AfCFTA) from Walvis Bay with the shipment of its very first consignment. Led by the Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT), this milestone opens Namibia’s access to Africa’s vast single market of over 1.3 billion people, creating unparalleled opportunities for local businesses to grow, compete, and export across the continent.
Through reduced tariffs and streamlined trade processes, AfCFTA empowers Namibian producers and MSMEs to diversify their markets, boost competitiveness, and contribute to sustainable economic growth and job creation.
The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) has said it, fully supports MIRT in facilitating this historic journey towards a more connected, resilient, and prosperous Namibia, positioning the country as a gateway to Africa’s integrated economy.
