On March 12th, the electrolyser at HyIron Oshivela plant successfully produced its first green hydrogen. This marks a pivotal moment for HyIron and for Namibia’s green industrialisation ambitions.
The 12MW electrolyser, now the largest of its kind in Southern Africa, is operating within our smart micro grid and stably generating green hydrogen. We are now in the process of gradually ramping up the electrolyser to its full capacity, which will soon form the foundation for producing iron with zero emissions.
This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the strong support and vision of the Government of Namibia and their ambitious green hydrogen program. We also want to express our deepest gratitude to the more than 60 Namibian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) whose expertise and dedication were instrumental in building this state-of-the-art facility. Your contribution has been invaluable! Furthermore, we extend our sincere thanks to Peric Hydrogen Systems, and to Tony and Ma for their crucial assistance in the successful commissioning of the system.
Construction of this groundbreaking facility commenced in April 2024, and to see it operational in less than a year is a remarkable feat of collaboration and efficiency.
“HyIron is proud to be working alongside Namibian partners and international experts to drive this crucial industrial transition, contributing to a cost-neutral Green Deal that benefits Namibia, Europe, and all stakeholders.”
