Namibia’s premier digital driver has yesterday announced the continuation of its MTC 4Life program, which is a Corporate Social Investment initiative driven to train and empower the youth with entrepreneurial and practical business skills needed to start or upscale their small and medium enterprises. The objective is to reduce the unemployment rate by stimulating and aiding the willing youth to create employment opportunities for themselves and others.
Once again, the program will offer 40 Namibian youth an opportunity to participate in a two-week long training program in various trades, including Barbering, Brick manufacturing, animation, carpentry, hairstyling, electricity and solar, upholstery and welding, respectively. The training in these trades will be conducted by contracted qualified Namibian trainers. Upon completion of the training, trainees will receive a start-up toolkit and an amount of N$5000 capital.
This year, applicants are expected to come from four regions: Erongo, Hardap, Omaheke, and Zambezi.
When asked why only those four regions, MTC Corporate Communications Practitioner, Erasmus Nekundi stated that all regions will eventually benefit from the program. “Since last year, we have adopted a targeted approach of tackling a few regions at a time. And this is strategically to achieve program implementation efficacy as we strive to record a meaningful impact. Last year we covered Omusati, Kavango East and west, Kunene, and Otjozondjupa, and now we are continuing with the new regions that we have not covered.”
Nekundi stated that MTC, as a corporate citizen, will continue to contribute to the social and economic welfare of Namibians through its various CSI initiatives. “We have embedded in our business practice a culture of meaningfully contributing to our country’s social and economic development, hence driving and upholding programs such as MTC 4Life (amongst others) where the aim is to reduce youth unemployment by imparting the necessary skills and giving the youth the much-needed capital to kickstart and grow their own micro businesses.”
Interested candidates have until 27 February 2025 to submit their application. More information on the requirements and how to apply can be obtained on MTC website and social media pages.
