NCRST appoints National Indigenous Knowledge Systems Council

The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) recently appointed eight members to the National Indigenous Knowledge Systems Council (NIKSC).

This Council will play a pivotal role in advising and assisting the NCRST in finalising the draft IKS policy whilst developing and implementing a comprehensive National Agenda for Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and related technologies across various sectors.

The NIKSC members, selected for their expertise and experience, will also provide strategic guidance on policy matters on Indigenous knowledge systems.

Their contributions will be crucial to promoting the recognition, preservation and utilisation of indigenous knowledge within the national research agenda.

The Appointed Members of the NIKSC are:

  1. Dr. Fillemon Nangolo: Chairperson of the NIKSC and representative of the Board of Commissioners.
  2. Prof. Dr. Nailoke Pauline Kadhila: Representing the National Science Sector.
  3. Dr. Michael Uusiku Akuupa: Representing the Social Science Sector.
  4. Dr. Michael Shirungu: Representing the Health Sector.
  5. Ms. Nzila Marina Mubusisi: Representing Culture.
  6. Ms. Munolwisho Elizabeth Ipangelua: Representing Law.
  7. Mr. Henry Ndengejeho: Access and Benefit Sharing Specialist.
  8. Mr. Onesmus Joseph: Intellectual Property Specialist.

The NCRST, represented by its Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners, Prof. Dr. Jacob Nyambe, and its Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dr. Anicia Peters, has conveyed its sincere appreciation to the newly appointed members for their readiness to serve on this significant council and for their commitment to the nation’s progress in harnessing Indigenous knowledge for sustainable development.
