Momentum Metropolitan Empowerment Trust (MMET) has announced a contribution of N$200 000 to the Namibia National Internship Program (NNIP) and became the 4th corporate to aid the program, joining the likes of Old Mutual, Standard Bank, and MTC Namibia.
NNIP objective remains to continue providing students with Working Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities – which students are required to do before they graduate.
With a total of 990 beneficiaries to date, the program has a sustained commitment to facilitate and aid institutions of higher learning in finding internship placements for students while concurrently accelerating job creation amongst the youth.
Namibia, per annum, reports over 48 000 students nationally that require to do Work Integrated Learning (WIL) to graduate.
Regarding the program’s sustainability, MTC commits annually an amount of N$2 million and is urging more corporates to come on board in order to upscale the course.
Speaking on the need to upscale the program, MTC Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo said “We started with 160 students per annum, and now we are at 230. However, our aim is to have capacity for at least 1600, yearly. This requires a capital injection of N$14million, an amount which can be achieved through smart partnership. Our call therefore still stands to corporates who are yet to pledge to onboard with a minimum of N$200 000 to the program.
Ekandjo welcomes Momentum Metropolitan Empowerment Trust Namibia supports and re-emphasise that solutions to national social challenges can only be realised through collaboration.
“We appreciate and welcomes the support from Momentum Metropolitan Empowerment Trust Namibia. When we unite in addressing a national matter, then meaningful impact towards desired results can be attained. We thus applaud MMN Empowerment Trust Namibia for responding positively to the standing call for corporates in Namibia (public and private) to join hands in upscaling the programme into a national vehicle that drives and offers students with WIL opportunities.”
The Momentum Metropolitan Empowerment Trust, formerly known as the Pinnacle Metropolitan Empowerment Trust, was established in 2002 as a charitable organization with the goal of supporting underprivileged groups in Namibia and contributing to various community initiatives through financial assistance.
According to the Trust’s Chairperson, Steven Ndorokaze, “the Trust’s objective is to improve the quality of life for community groups and organizations in areas such as education, healthcare, job creation, training, skills development, community upliftment, poverty alleviation, and empowerment. It is overseen by a Board of Trustees responsible for ensuring that allocated funds effectively fulfill the organization’s mission by addressing the needs of historically marginalized groups through income generation and poverty reduction.”
“I commend MTC Namibia for its proactive efforts in making a positive impact on students’ lives through the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities program. This initiative reflects the Namibia National Internship Program’s commitment to graduating students, equipping them with valuable work experience. Your dedication to empowering these students is praiseworthy. We are therefore proud to collaborate with MTC and other corporate entities in empowering youth and addressing unemployment challenges.”
