Government sets aside N$131.5 million to support ICT sector

The Minister of Information Communication and Technology, Emma Theofelus has said that government has allocated N$131.5 million towards ICT development.

Theofelus said this while addressing delegates at the 23rd ICT stakeholders’ engagement.

“Funds have been allocated to ICT Development in terms of the implementation of the Universal Access Service initiative that aims to roll out 30 Radio Access Network towers at an estimated cost of N$110 million for three years. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide in the unserved and underserved areas of our country by providing access to network connections,” she said adding that N$ 20 million has been allocated towards the establishment of the Namibia Cybersecurity Incidence Response Team (Nam-CSIRT) under the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) while N$1.5 million has been set aside for the implementation of the 5G Strategy.

In addition, she noted that the Ministry appreciates the sector’s continuous support in the development and implementation of ICT projects.

“The government also remains committed to providing the legislative and policy frameworks which are relevant and responsive to the ever-changing technological advances and plans are underway to review the National Broadband Policy. Your input in this regard will be highly appreciated,” she said.
