The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) has announced its first-ever Oil & Gas Seminar, scheduled to take place on the 11th and 12th of September 2023 at the esteemed Namibia University of Science & Technology (NUST).

With a resolute focus on fostering engagement and participation among the youth, professionals, and the general public, the seminar will delve into the fundamental aspects of the oil and gas industry.

The NAMCOR Race to First Oil Seminar will provide invaluable insights into a wide spectrum of topics, encompassing the essentials of hydrocarbon formation and the upstream petroleum lifecycle. Furthermore, the seminar will feature comprehensive presentations spotlighting the Namibian upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors. The discussions will also encapsulate the myriad benefits and opportunities that accompany oil discoveries, underscoring their profound impact on the nation, the business landscape, and the individual Namibian citizen.

Shiwana Ndeunyema, the Acting Managing Director stated, “The seminar embodies the company’s steadfast commitment to fostering public education and discourse around the immense potential that the energy sector bestows upon the country.” He further continued to state, “This seminar provides an exceptional platform for students, as well as members of the general public from diverse backgrounds, to not only gain insights into current events and concepts but also directly engage with our accomplished executives and specialists.”

Distinguished dignitaries will grace the event with their presence and profound insights. The Minister of Mines & Energy, Hon. Tom Alweendo, and NAMCOR’s Board Chairperson, Jennifer Comalie, will officially inaugurate the seminar. Their participation underscores the significance of the occasion and the shared commitment to driving the oil and gas industry forward. The seminar builds upon numerous highlevel engagements, highlighting the industry’s critical importance and potential. Under the Exploration business segment, NAMCOR plays an active role in exploring oil and gas resources, alongside other energy opportunities.

These efforts are executed through strategic collaborations with international energy majors, both within Namibia and beyond its borders. In the realm of Development and Production, the company diligently seeks to secure oil-producing assets in stable jurisdictions worldwide. This aligns with NAMCOR’s overarching mandate of ensuring energy security while also safeguarding the company’s long-term sustainability. The Downstream leg of NAMCOR focuses on sourcing and distributing petroleum products to the Government, commercial entities, and the general public. With its pioneering Oil & Gas Seminar, NAMCOR reinforces its dedication to equipping Namibians with a comprehensive understanding of the energy sector.

The seminar is a testament to NAMCOR’s unwavering commitment to education, dialogue, and collaborative growth, fostering a brighter future for Namibia.
