BIPA engages WIPO Director-General ahead of his visit to Namibia

The Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA) management recently had a fruitful engagement with the Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and his team from the African Division at the 64th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies held in Geneva, Switzerland.

 This high-level meeting aimed to enhance existing relations between Namibia and WIPO in the area of intellectual property protection, awareness and capacity development for Namibia. The Director-General is scheduled to visit Namibia in November this year, on invitation from the Namibian government. The anticipated visit of Daren Tang to Namibia would serve as a significant milestone in this collaborative journey, where he would witness firsthand the progress made by Namibia in the area of IP, creativity and innovation, and engage with key stakeholders from various sectors.

During the meeting, the Director General commended Namibia for its forward-thinking approach towards IP promotion and emphasized the crucial role intellectual property plays in driving economic growth and development, specifically through the use of modern technologies. He expressed his admiration for Namibia’s efforts in fostering a culture of innovation and creativity, and he pledged WIPO’s continued support in further enhancing the intellectual property landscape in the Namibia.

The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment from both BIPA and WIPO to work closely together in advancing Namibia’s intellectual property agenda locally, regionally and globally.
