Import, export, rebates, and transit permits are free of charge – Trade Ministry

The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT) has informed the public that the application for, and issuance of Import, Export, Rebates, and Transit Permits is free of charge.

The MIT through the IMEX Sub-Division is responsible for the monitoring and implementation of the compliance of the Import and Export Control Act, 1994 (Act 30 of 1994) which provides for import and export control of goods in Namibia.

The Act requires every importer or exporter whose goods are subject to import or export licensing to first obtain an import or export permit before importing into or exporting outside Namibia.

“It came to the attention of the Ministry that there are individuals, agents, or groups misleading the public and charging them on the application and issuance of MIT Permits.

“The public is urged to report any activities related to payment for the application and issuance of permits to the Executive Director at 061-2837332 or email pro@mit.gov.na before taking any action that is likely to bear risks,” said the ministry.
