The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) will host the International Conference on Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies in Higher Education (RUAiETH) from 01 to 03 October 2025 at the Windhoek Country Club Resort. Held under the theme ‘Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies in Higher Education: Bridging African and Diasporan Perspectives’, the conference will bring together academics, policymakers, industry experts, innovators, and students from across Africa and the diaspora.

The three-day event will explore critical topics such as the role of responsible innovation in sustainable development, how African universities can drive ethical and impactful innovation, and how to leverage collaboration between policy, industry, and academia to address pressing societal challenges. It will also showcase success stories and case studies from African institutions, highlighting practical pathways for higher education to drive positive societal change.

Commenting on the broader significance of the gathering, Prof Fungai Bhunu Shava, Acting Executive Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, noted that “the outcomes of the conference are envisaged to impact policy reforms and practice around the responsible use and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in education across the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”. Key sessions will focus on AI in education, emerging technologies for teaching and learning, the governance and ethics of AI, and overcoming challenges to embedding new technologies in higher education. Prof Bhunu Shava further emphasised that the conference will not only focus on immediate discussions, but also on building a legacy. “It will create a platform for networking and establishing lasting networks across Africa in the education sector, setting the basis for a continued series of the convergence annually moving forward.”
