Old Mutual invests N$240 000 in staff-led community projects

Old Mutual Namibia, through the Old Mutual Foundation, has selected 18 employees whose heartfelt community project applications stood out as part of the 2025 Staff Community Builder Initiative, a flagship programme designed to support and empower Old Mutual staff to drive meaningful change in the places they call home.

The Staff Community Builder Initiative invites Old Mutual employees annually to apply for funding to support causes they personally care about, from schools and early childhood centres to community upliftment programmes and essential services. It is one of the many ways Old Mutual ensures its people are not just employees, but active agents of positive change in society.

This year, a record 38 applications were received from across the country, reflecting the deep sense of purpose and social responsibility within the business. After a thorough evaluation process, 18 Mutualites were selected, with their nominated projects set to receive a combined N$240 000 in support, more than double the investment made in previous years.

Twelve projects will each receive N$15 000, while six others will each receive N$10 000. These staff-led initiatives span all 14 regions of Namibia, addressing pressing needs such as early childhood education, inclusive learning tools, school infrastructure, feeding programmes, hygiene support, and more.

What makes this initiative exceptional is the personal commitment behind each project. Every selected project is driven by an Old Mutual staff member who identified a real need in their community and stepped forward to be part of the solution, demonstrating the power of corporate citizenship at an individual level.

“This initiative speaks to the soul of who we are as an organisation,” said Mignon du Preez, Group Marketing, Public Affairs and Sustainability Executive at Old Mutual Namibia. “When our people step forward to lead change, the Foundation stands behind them. These projects are not just funding grants, they are stories of service, impact, and the belief that doing great things starts at home.”

Through this year’s selected projects, Old Mutual is enabling tangible impact in regions such as Khomas, Omaheke, Zambezi, Kavango West, Kavango East, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Erongo, Ohangwena, Kharas, and Oshikoto, showing that no area is too remote or cause too small when driven by purpose and supported by the right resources.

The Old Mutual Foundation will work closely with each staff member to finalise purchases, coordinate logistics, and ensure handovers are managed with care and community involvement.

The Staff Community Builder Initiative is a testament to Old Mutual Namibia’s belief that building a better future begins with empowering its own people to lead with purpose, compassion, and commitment.
