Executives from Yango and Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, met on the sidelines of the Angolan Information and Communication Technologies Forum (ANGOTIC 2025) to discuss how Yango can foster technological development in Namibia through its services. This engaging discussion also explored groundbreaking new product opportunities and ways to deepen the company’s investment in the local economy.
The discussions were further proof of Yango’s dedication to improving Namibia’s transport sector and that of the continent. Since its launch in Namibia in 2023, Yango has rapidly become a preferred and trusted mode of transport for many Namibians, simultaneously creating significant employment opportunities within the country.
Key topics of the discussion included potential partnerships to boost job creation, the piloting of new Yango products in Namibia, and critical skills transfer initiatives. Minister Theofelus emphasised that such partnerships are vital and reiterated Namibia’s favourable environment for introducing new technologies and services.
She said, “You’re empowering Namibians, regardless of age, background or gender. As long as they have a vehicle and fulfil all the requirements, they’re able to run the service, and anybody can get that service and pay for it.” She further urged Yango to consider Namibia as a country to pilot some of its services.
“We had a very fruitful exchange with Minister Theofelus regarding the future of smart mobility in Namibia,” said Zanyiwe Asare, Vice President and Head of Public Policy for Yango in Africa. “Namibia is a crucial market for Yango, and we are committed to not only providing a safer platform with our safety features and flexible ride-hailing services but also contributing to the nation’s economic growth through job creation and the introduction of innovative tech solutions. We are excited about the prospects of piloting new services that can further enhance daily life for Namibians and deepen our engagement with the local community.”
Adding to this, Asare stated, “In Namibia, Yango empowers local business owners in the transportation space to utilise our tools, our maps, our brand and to get that access to the market, which is something that previously they didn’t have.”
The meeting also touched upon broader strategies for promoting, developing, and enhancing the transport sector across Africa.
Yango Group, headquartered in Dubai, offers a diverse portfolio of services, including ride-hailing, food and package delivery, e-commerce and AI voice assistants, and operates in over 30 countries globally.
