The Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group has announced the dawn of a new era in Namibian retail. As of 1 July 2025, a wholly Namibian-owned brand, Model, will officially replace Pick n Pay Namibia, setting the stage for a bold and inspiring shopping experience.
For decades, O&L has remained steadfast in its commitment to innovation, quality and customer-centricity. This next chapter marks an extraordinary opportunity to elevate the everyday, transforming grocery shopping from a routine task into an experience filled with delight and inspiration.
Model is not just a name – it is a statement. A promise to our customers that shopping will never be the same again. It represents excellence, aspiration and accessibility, underpinned by O&L’s resolute dedication to creating a retail environment that seamlessly blends world-class standards with the warmth of Namibian hospitality.
Graeme Mouton, Managing Director of Model: “While we are keeping some of the most exciting details under wraps for now, what we can reveal is that Model will introduce a fresh and dynamic approach to retail, with hand-picked quality products and a thoughtfully curated shopping experience. Customers can look forward to a new benchmark in grocery retail that is designed around their needs – one that is inspiring, seamless and uniquely Namibian.”
Sven Thieme, O&L Group Executive Chairman: “The O&L Group’s retail journey began with Model in 1965, and now, 60 years later, we return to these roots with renewed passion and purpose. This transition is more than a name change; it is a bold evolution that will redefine how Namibians shop. Our commitment to our people – both employees and customers – remains unchanged, ensuring continuity in service while introducing fresh opportunities for growth and excellence.”
From 1 July 2025, Model will officially launch across the country. The transition is already in motion, with a phased refurbishment approach that will gradually bring the full Model experience to life.
“Model is not only a store; it is a movement. It stands for authenticity, care and passion – the core characteristics of our O&L Persona. As we take full ownership of our retail future, we invite all Namibians to join us on this exciting journey. Stay tuned for more details as we unveil what’s next. The countdown to a revolutionary retail experience has begun!”, concluded Mouton.
