Galp chief executive Filipe Silva promised the current appraisal well being drilled offshore Namibia “will be a keeper”, as the Portuguese oil major progresses development of its large Mopane discovery at a fast pace and has started discussions with potential partners to join in – although a deal is not expected before end of next year.
In its latest financial update on Monday, Galp posted a 27% increase in net income in the third quarter of the year against 2023 levels to €266 million ($287 million), exceeding consensus forecasts.
Discussing the progress of the Namibia exploration campaign, Silva said on a call with analysts on Monday: “We are drilling our third well as we speak. This will be a keeper.”
