Olympia Eye & Laser Centre has announced an exciting breakthrough in retinal care for patients in Namibia. Dr. Talitha Maritz recently performed a series of treatments using the advanced Navilas® Laser System 577s Prime, marking a new chapter in the treatment of retinal conditions, specifically central serous choroidopathy, diabetic macular oedema, and retinal vein occlusions.
Retinal issues like fluid buildup, which are common in these conditions, can severely impact vision. While traditional laser treatments have long been used to address these issues, the new Navilas® subthreshold laser technology represents a significant advancement. Unlike conventional lasers, this system uses only a fraction of the power, allowing for precise treatment without damaging surrounding tissue.
This makes it a much safer and gentler option for restoring sight. The treatment employs microsecond pulsing, which stimulates the affected areas of the retina, helping to reduce fluid and improve vision. Importantly, the treatment does not reach the intensity required to cause permanent damage, making it an ideal solution for delicate retinal conditions such as central serous choroidopathy, and as an adjunct therapy for diabetic macular oedema and retinal vein occlusions.
Olympia Eye & Laser Centre is proud to be the first in Namibia to offer this state-of-the-art treatment, reflecting the clinic’s ongoing commitment to bringing the most advanced, patient-friendly eye care solutions to the country. “We are thrilled to have access to this pioneering technology,” said Dr. Maritz. “It allows us to offer our patients more precise, comfortable, and effective treatments, significantly enhancing their quality of life.”
As Namibia continues to advance its medical services, innovations like these are crucial in ensuring that local patients have access to world-class care without the need to travel abroad. At Olympia Eye & Laser Centre, the focus remains on providing cutting-edge solutions that make a real difference in patients’ lives.
