FlySafair operated its inaugural flight between Cape Town International Airport and Windhoek’s Hosea Kutako International Airport.
The new service is the budget carrier’s first international service out of its Cape Town hub.
This new Cape Town to Windhoek service will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The inaugural flight was operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft (registration ZS-SJH). The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800NG sported the airline’s new livery.
This new route offering comes after South Africa’s International Air Services Council last year awarded FlySafair the right to operate services between Johannesburg and various points in neighbouring countries.
This is, however, FlySafair’s first foray into Namibia.
South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille was present at Cape Town International Airport, bidding farewell to the passengers departing on FlySafair’s inaugural flight to the Namibian capital.
The aircraft was greeted at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek by a delegation including the Executive director of the Namibian ministry of Environmental and Tourism, and South Africa’s Consul for Namibia.
“We’re thrilled to launch this much-awaited service,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair.
The new Windhoek route is off to a good start with encouraging load factors.
FlySafair is offering some very attractive fares on this route, starting from R1 800 one way, including taxes.
The airline operates with agility, effectively adjusting its flight schedule and route network as needed.
FlySafair intends to scale up on the route when demand rises and when it has an aircraft available to increase these frequencies.
“The market is already responding very well to our competitive fares and we hope to see this destination grow in the near future with more flights and more links into South Africa.” Gordon said.
