NHE targets to build 1400 houses at N$770 million investment

National Housing Enterprise (NHE) recently finalised mapping its strategic road map for the next five years and as a start in the 2023 – 2024 Financial Year, the enterprise has committed to raise enough capital to build over 1400 housing units around the country with a projected investment of over N$770 million.

This was revealed by NHE Board Chairperson, Toska Sem at a recent houses handover to 24 families in Ondangwa.

“I am convinced that these efforts will go a long way in alleviating one of our national issues, which is the housing backlog,” Sem said.

The NHE is mandated to build and finance quality and affordable housing products for Namibian inhabitants.

“We are working tirelessly to guarantee the efficient and effective deliverance of this important national mandate as evidenced by this momentous occasion we are witnessing today,” added Sem.

Talking about the handover in Ondangwa, Sem noted that project was launched a year ago and its successful execution is an indication that the National Housing Enterprise requires more land to build houses for Ondangwa residents.

“The demand for housing in this town is high, as over 5000 people on our waiting list are still waiting for us to contact them for housing allocation. However, we are unable to help them due to the non-availability of land in the town. NHE is adopting a strategy to keep the waiting list live. All applicants that are on the waiting list are invited country to update their records. NHE would like to have an appreciation of your social and economic standing to enable us to serve you accordingly,” Sem said.

As the champion or the Government agency responsible for housing in Namibia, Sem added, it is pleasing to note that this project involved Namibians from start to finish and benefitted from this project.

Around 38 people were employed during the construction phase of this project.

“Your Worship the mayor, extension 25 in Ondangwa is waiting for NHE. I am delighted to share more goods news that NHE has acquired 64 plots here in Ondangwa. NHE has listened to its clientele and we have been tasked to  transform our strategy. Its a new Day, New Dawn for NHE. Our strategy is to provide basic housing basic shelter which is not decorated -ceiling and tilling as these are luxury.  In our quest to celebrate the 30 years of existence, we will endeavour to transform the lives of many by providing affordable and quality housing.

“We have intensified our engagements with local authorities and other key stakeholders to foster sound relations that will result in the attainment of our national goals as outlined in our national development agendas such as the Vision 2030, Harambee Prosperity Plan 11, National Development Plans. NHE is in the process to re-align our strategy to talk to the Revised National Housing Policy for ultra low and low income earners,” further explained Sem adding that the housing conundrum can only be redressed through collective efforts by all stakeholders within the housing fraternity.

“We are all aware that housing serves as a cornerstone for socio-economic growth, especially in urban centres, making it one of the key sectors of our country.

“The houses we are handing over today have been built using quality material, guaranteeing the durability of these products. I am therefore, pleased to say that the N$12 million that the NHE invested in this project is money well spent. I congratulate all new homeowners and wish to urge you take care of your properties. The NHE is fully committed to ensure that your after-sale experience is satisfactory and that you will enjoy being in your homes,” concluded Sem.
