Namibia Building Workers Pension Fund launches nationwide roadshows

The Namibia Building Workers Pension Fund (NBWPF) has announced the commencement of its nationwide roadshows, which will cover all regions of Namibia, including 19 cities, towns, and villages. The roadshow commenced on Monday, 21 August 2023, and will end on 4 September 2023.

The NBWPF says it is committed to ensuring that all building and construction workers in Namibia have access to essential information that will help them with their pension fund and retirement planning. The roadshows aim to reach out to as many employees in the building and construction sector, as possible, providing them with the opportunity to learn more about retirement planning, and more specifically about the benefits and services offered by the NBWPF.

During the roadshows, board trustees from the NBWPF will be present to answer questions, provide guidance, and assist workers in understanding the importance of planning for their retirement. This annual roadshow will also provide an opportunity to educate workers on good personal financial management practices, including efficient personal budgeting for respective households but also how to manage one’s debts.

Enwich Kazondu, principal officers says: “We regard our annual roadshow as a very important activity in our annual calendar. We want to achieve various objectives with these engagements; number one, it is important for people to have the necessary understanding to ensure that they are in the position to indeed have a comfortable retirement.

“We also want to ensure that the workers in the construction sector are aware of their rights, i.e. that all of them should be given the opportunity to join any pension fund through their employers. As a result of a gazetted collective agreement in our country, it is mandatory that all workers in this sector are members of and contribute toward a pension fund. Naturally, we would recommend the NBPWF, as it is the umbrella fund for the building and construction industry; and we understand the peculiarities of this sector.

And we also want to make sure that we are able to reach out to their employers as well. This is to ensure that they are aware of the benefits the NBWPF can provide to their workers. In addition, recently  Namfisa-approved rule amendments, now allow for higher level contributions by both the employee and the employer. This means therefore that the fund becomes even more relevant for our sector and will now also become attractive to higher income earners in this sector”.

The NBWPF roadshow will visit 19 cities, towns, and villages across Namibia, ensuring that no region is left out. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the NBWPF’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that all building workers, regardless of their location, have access to the information and resources they need to secure their financial future.
