Donkerbos Primary, latest beneficiary of the MTC rural schools project

MTC and MVA Fund, through the MTC Rural Schools Project, yesterday handed over a block of four classrooms and a Staff office block to DonkerBos Primary School in Otjombinde constituency, Omaheke region.

The infrastructure funded to the tune of N$2.4 million was officially inaugurated by Honourable Pijoo Nganate, Governor of Omaheke region, who expressed gratitude to MTC and MVA Fund for the continuous and impactful investment in education.

“On behalf of the people of Omaheke, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to MTC and MVA Fund for recognising the value of investing in the education of rural Namibia. By building classrooms, you are not just providing walls and roofs; you are creating opportunities, shaping futures, and planting seeds of prosperity. For us in Omaheke, the significance of this moment goes beyond bricks and mortar. It speaks to inclusivity. Too often, rural and remote areas feel left behind when national projects are rolled out. But today we are reminded that Omaheke is not forgotten. We are part of the national fabric, and our children are just as deserving of opportunity as any child in any other town, city or region.”

Tim Ekandjo, MTC’s Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications, and Sustainability Officer, said “Since the launch of the project in 2019, we were able to build a total of 53 classrooms across the regions such as Kunene, Otjozondjupa, Oshana, Hardap, Karas, Kavango West, Kavango East, Zambezi, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, and Omaheke. Before the end of the year, we will also be handing over classrooms to a school in Omusati region.”

In his remarks, MVA Fund Chief Corporate Affairs, John Haufiku, said “We are aware of the dire need of classrooms that the education sector is faced with, hence, we have intentionally joined the MTC Rural Schools Project, to aid the education ministry with the little that we can in ensuring that the teaching and learning environment of the Namibian child is dignified and conducive.”

Principal Marah Patience could only utter words of gratitude, commended MTC and MVA Fund for driving the Rural Schools Project. “We are grateful beyond words. The impact of this project which you are driving is positively changing the experience of teaching and learning especially for us in the remote areas. We really had a challenge of classrooms not enough for learners, and as teachers, we didn’t have a staff room, but that is history now all thanks to MTC and MVA Fund.”
