Omuthiya gets its first MTC mobile home

The populace of Omuthiya Town and nearby villages will no longer have to travel long distances to access MTC services. This comes when the country’s premier digital driver, MTC, on Friday (18th July 2025) opened its new and first Mobile Home in Omuthiya, bringing the company’s countrywide footprint of Mobile shops to a total of 38.

Welcoming the new shop in the town, 58years old and a resident of Omuthiya, Sakaria Shivute could not hold his excitement and gratitude, stating that they have for long struggled with traveling to other regions to seek MTC services. “Finally, I can say that we are recognized and part of the development. I will no longer have to spend money on transport fares to Ondangwa for MTC services. We are therefore happy, and we welcome MTC in our town.”

Emma Theofelus, Minister of ICT officiated the event, stating that: “Government will continue to facilitate and create an enabling environment that encourages the provision of access to and delivery of the essential services to the people. Omuthiya is the capital town of Oshikoto region, and the residents there, just like any other, deserve access to quality ICT services. I therefore urge MTC to continue its commendable effort of bringing inclusivity and bridging the digital divide. To the residents of this town, this is development on our doorstep, so I urge you to guide and protect this facility because it belongs to you.”

During the opening ceremony, the governor of Oshikoto region, Honourable Sacky Kathindi says the new MTC shop in the town is more than a service point. It symbolises progress in the town’s development mission. “This mobile home stands as a symbol of progress. It signifies an important shift in how we deliver essential services to our people, especially in rural and peri-urban areas. The geographical location should no longer be a limitation for accessing mobile services or digital tools that can uplift livelihoods. We therefore commend MTC for this bold and   innovative step. The presence of this mobile home in Omuthiya brings hope to young entrepreneurs, to students, to farmers and to small business owners who rely on connectivity to thrive.”

According to MTC’s Chief Commercial Officer, Octivious Kahiya, “MTC’s intent and desire to have a presence in Omuthiya has been on planning radar for nearly two years. What gave further motivation to this was the astonishing customer growth witnessed not only in Omuthiya but also in the region and from the surrounding constituencies.”

Kahiya added MTC to open more Mobile Homes this year. “Within this calendar year, we anticipate to open stores in the Northern East part of the country, due to the increase in Business and SME sectors and the overall population growth. Emphasis will be given to Katima Mulilo, Divundu and Rundu.”
