Namibia and the United States deepen collaboration on cybersecurity and digital innovation

On June 10, the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek hosted a panel discussion under the theme “Driving Namibia and the United States’ Mutual Interest in Technology.”  The event brought together stakeholders from government, academia, and the private sector to exchange ideas on strengthening cybersecurity, advancing digital innovation, and promoting responsible technology governance.

Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Alexis Haftvani delivered welcoming remarks, highlighting the importance of partnerships and robust digital infrastructure in driving inclusive growth.  “By working with Namibia to expand internet access, improve digital infrastructure, and promote sound technology policies, we are investing in long-term progress,” said Haftvani.

The panel featured U.S. exchange program alumni who are leading voices in Namibia’s technology space: Prof. Dr. Anicia Peters (CEO, National Commission on Research, Science and Technology), Alex Pompe (former Research Manager, Data for Good at META), Lameck Amugongo (Tech Activist), and Sebulon David (Founder, Glowdom Technologies).  Their contributions highlighted key areas such as data protection, digital entrepreneurship, the need for localized tech policy research, and emerging challenges in cybersecurity.

The event reinforced the vital role of alumni networks in shaping Namibia’s digital future and fostering mutual understanding between Namibia and the United States through sustained professional collaboration.
