FNB Namibia has been named Best SME Bank in Namibia at the prestigious Global Banking & Finance Awards, recognising the bank’s leadership in SME banking, financial inclusion, innovation, and its continued investment in helping Namibian entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses.
The award follows FNB (Namibia and South Africa)’s recent recognition as Africa’s Best SME Bank in Africa. This latest accolade specifically celebrates the impact FNB Namibia is making within the Namibian market. It acknowledges the bank’s role in expanding access to finance, strengthening entrepreneurship, and supporting the growth of small and medium enterprises that continue to drive employment, innovation, and economic development across the country.
Today, FNB Namibia serves SMEs across all 14 regions, maintaining an estimated 35–40% share of Namibia’s SME banking market. This national footprint has positioned the bank as the country’s leading SME banking partner, supporting entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey, from first-time business owners and informal traders entering the formal economy to established enterprises expanding into new markets.
Beyond market leadership, the award recognises FNB Namibia’s commitment to making financial services more accessible. By challenging traditional lending models and introducing innovative credit solutions, including unsecured lending products designed for first-time borrowers, the bank continues to remove barriers that have historically limited access to finance for many entrepreneurs.
Recognising that access to capital alone is not enough, FNB Namibia has also invested significantly in developing entrepreneurial capability. Through business development initiatives, capacity-building programmes, incubation support, and strategic partnerships, the bank has trained and supported more than 1,500 entrepreneurs, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to build resilient businesses.
Innovation continues to underpin the bank’s SME strategy. Through digital platforms such as the SME Hub, mobile business toolkits, alternative banking channels, and simplified funding solutions, FNB Namibia is creating an ecosystem that enables business owners to bank more efficiently, access expert guidance, and make informed decisions that support long-term growth.
The bank has also maintained a strong focus on inclusive economic participation by expanding opportunities for women-owned businesses, first-time entrepreneurs, youth-owned enterprises, and underserved communities through dedicated solutions and targeted support programmes.
Head of SME Banking at FNB Namibia, Nesdha De Jongh, said the award reflects the meaningful impact entrepreneurs are having on Namibia’s economy.
“Being recognised as Namibia’s Best SME Bank is especially meaningful because it reflects the trust that entrepreneurs place in us every day. SMEs are at the heart of Namibia’s economy, creating jobs, driving innovation, and strengthening communities. Our role is to provide more than financial services, we strive to be a long-term partner that helps businesses unlock opportunities, overcome challenges, and realise their ambitions. This recognition belongs as much to the entrepreneurs we serve as it does to FNB.”
He added that the recognition validates the bank’s long-term commitment to building an enabling environment for entrepreneurs.
“Our SME banking strategy is built on the understanding that successful businesses need more than access to funding. They need the right tools, practical support, relevant advice, and innovative solutions that evolve alongside their needs. Whether it’s helping a first-time entrepreneur establish a credit history, supporting women-owned businesses, or enabling established enterprises to embrace digital transformation, our focus remains on removing barriers and creating opportunities for sustainable growth.”
De Jongh further emphasised the bank’s commitment to strengthening Namibia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“This recognition reinforces our commitment to continue investing in Namibian entrepreneurs and businesses. Every business that grows creates employment, strengthens local industries, and contributes to a more resilient economy. We are proud to stand alongside the entrepreneurs who are shaping Namibia’s future, and we remain committed to helping them succeed.”
As Namibia’s entrepreneurial landscape continues to evolve, FNB Namibia remains focused on empowering businesses through accessible finance, innovative digital solutions, entrepreneur development, and meaningful partnerships that contribute to long-term economic prosperity.
