Oregen Energy secures Venus discovery expert as strategic advisor for Namibian offshore block

Oregen Energy Corp. has appointed former Impact Oil & Gas Exploration Director Philip Birch as a strategic advisor to assist the company in evaluating a potential investment in Namibia’s offshore Block 2812Ab, located in the prolific Orange Basin.

Birch, a petroleum geoscientist with extensive experience in the region, played a key role in identifying and advancing the Venus prospect prior to its successful drilling by TotalEnergies, which became one of the largest hydrocarbon discoveries in sub-Saharan Africa. His appointment comes as the Orange Basin continues to cement its reputation as a world-class petroleum province following a string of major discoveries.

Oregen, an investment company primarily focused on oil and gas assets in Africa, stated that Birch’s expertise will support exploration strategy, subsurface evaluation and technical positioning related to Block 2812Ab, which sits adjacent to the Venus discovery within the same proven petroleum fairway. The company already holds a 33.95 percent net interest in Block 2712A offshore Namibia as its flagship investment and is actively exploring other opportunities in the Orange and surrounding basins.

“We are delighted to welcome Philip Birch to our team,” a representative of Oregen Energy said. “His deep understanding of the Orange Basin’s geology and his track record in identifying high-potential prospects will be invaluable as we evaluate this new opportunity.”

The Orange Basin has attracted significant attention from major oil companies following recent discoveries, with the Venus find and others underscoring the basin’s vast potential. By bringing Birch on board, Oregen aims to leverage his direct experience in the area to make informed decisions about Block 2812Ab as the company continues to expand its footprint in Namibia’s promising offshore territory.
