Doeseb named Board Chair as new Erongo RED Board takes office

A new board of directors has officially taken the helm at Erongo RED, following the company’s inaugural board meeting held on Tuesday at its headquarters in Walvis Bay.

The newly constituted board, appointed by the company’s shareholders, convened to map the way forward for the electricity distributor, with Chief Executive Officer Immanuel !Hanabeb providing a comprehensive overview of the entity’s mandate, strategy, financial performance, and corporate governance instruments.

During the meeting, directors nominated and elected members to key leadership portfolios. Johnny Johnson Doeseb was elected as Chairperson of the Board, while Ismael Kalipi was appointed as Deputy Chairperson. Committee leadership roles were assigned to Selma Shaanika for the Audit and Risk Committee, Justy Moses for the Remuneration and Nomination Committee, and Titus Johannes for the Social and Ethics Committee.

The full board comprises representatives from various shareholder institutions and local authorities, including Selma Shaanika (NamPower), Davey van Wyk (representing Usakos, Karibib, Uis, Erongo Regional Council, and Arandis), Justy Moses and Johnny Johnson Doeseb (Walvis Bay Municipality), Wilfried Groenewald and Ismael Kalipi (Swakopmund Municipality), Bessel de Klerk (Omaruru Municipality), Titus Johannes (Henties Bay Municipality), alongside CEO Immanuel !Hanabeb serving as an ex officio member.

In his acceptance remarks, Doeseb expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and emphasised the board’s commitment to strategic, policy-driven leadership. “We are committed to building a cohesive and high performing team that delivers on its mandate and ensures quality and affordable service to our customers. Our leadership will be strategic, policy driven, and grounded in strong governance principles, never reactive or adversarial,” he said.

Doeseb also underscored the critical role of reliable electricity in community development, stating that it serves as a foundation for equality, health, and prosperity. He reaffirmed the board’s dedication to strengthening social impact initiatives, particularly for the elderly and vulnerable, through subsidised programmes aimed at ensuring inclusivity.

As Erongo RED embarks on this new chapter, management and staff have expressed their readiness to work alongside the new board to advance the organisation’s vision and service delivery objectives.
