The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) marks yet another key milestone in its port modernisation journey with the successful delivery of next-generation reach stackers at the Port of Walvis Bay. The equipment was supplied by Forklift Allied Equipment, a long-standing strategic partner in Namport’s fleet modernisation programme.
The newly delivered machines are E-Series telescopic reach stackers, designed to meet modern port performance standards and support Namport’s drive towards smart engineering, operational efficiency, and enhanced safety.
The reach stackers are configured to handle 45-tonne capacity in the first row and 32-tonne capacity in the second row, with the ability to stack containers up to five containers high. This capability significantly enhances terminal stacking density and container handling flexibility, particularly in high-volume operational environments.
From an operational perspective, the modern reach stackers introduce several upgrades that directly benefit productivity and safety such as:
- Enhanced braking systems, providing superior control and stopping performance;
- Improved lighting systems, enabling safer and more efficient night-time operations;
- Upgraded spreader technology, offering greater precision and reliability in container handling; and
- Integrated camera systems, supporting safer reversing and improved situational awareness for operators.
These features collectively strengthen Namport’s ability to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable port services while minimising operational risk and equipment downtime.
The investment underscores Namport’s commitment to continuously upgrading its equipment fleet in line with international port standards and smart port principles.
Through the deployment of these technologically advanced handling systems, Namport improves vessel turnaround times, enhances overall terminal efficiency, and further strengthens Namibia’s position as a competitive regional logistics and trade hub.
The Port Authority commends Forklift Allied Equipment for the timely delivery of the reach stackers and appreciates the continued partnership, which plays an important role in supporting operational excellence and innovation across its ports.
