Namibia central bank cuts main interest rate to 6.50%

Namibia’s central bank cut its main interest rate by 25 basis points to 6.50% in a decision announced on Wednesday.

The Bank of Namibia had maintained the repo rate at its three monetary policy meetings in April, June and August following four consecutive cuts previously.

Inflation rose to 3.5% year-on-year in September from 3.2% in August.

Namibia’s Monetary Policy Committee usually takes into consideration the local currency’s peg to neighbouring South Africa’s rand.
